The Third Greatest Horror Film of All Time, According to Rotten Tomatoes, Is Finally on Max

The fine folks at Rotten Tomatoes have crunched the numbers and come up with an exhaustive list of the top 200 horror films of all time. Holding down the number 3 spot on that very list is the action-horror classic Aliens.

It’s no surprise to see this James Cameron film claiming one of the top spots. The action is fast-paced; the narrative is immersive and unpredictable; and the tension level is simply unmatched. Not to mention, Sigourney Weaver slays in her return to the role that put the Oscar-nominated actress on the map.

In case you are unfamiliar, the setup goes like this:

After floating in space for 57 years, Lt. Ripley’s (Weaver) shuttle is found by a deep space salvage team. Upon arriving at LV-426, the Marines find only one survivor, a nine-year-old girl named Newt (Henn). But even these battle-hardened marines with all the latest weaponry are no match for the hundreds of aliens that have invaded the colony.

Aliens effortlessly blends action with horror. No other film has pulled off that juxtaposition with such ease. In fact, many attempts to merge the aforementioned genres have failed miserably. Look no further than Doom to understand how easily the pairing can go awry.

If you are itching to rewatch Aliens (or have somehow yet to experience this celebrated effort and have designs on an inaugural viewing), you are in luck. The flick is now streaming on Max.

Aside from Weaver’s iconic turn in the lead role, the picture features an all-star supporting cast that includes the likes of Michael Biehn, Paul Reiser, Lance Henriksen, Bill Paxton, and Carrie Henn.

That’s all we have for you for the time being. Stay tuned to the site in the coming days for more updates on what’s streaming where. And be sure to follow @DreadCentral on Twitter so you never miss an update.
