‘Dead End’ Exclusive Clip: Come To Daddy

Dead End

Dima Barch came to the United States with $200 to his name and a small duffle bag of clothing after escaping Russia in 2022, after he filmed his queer horror story Dead End. Despite Russia’s draconian laws around the LGBTQIA+ community, Barch still told his story through the lens of horror, a genre not often touched by Russian filmmakers. Now, it’s showing for perhaps the final time at this year’s Portland Horror Film Festival. Ahead of the screening, we have an exclusive clip to tease what horrors await in Barch’s first film.

In Dead End,

Nick is trying to escape from the house of his spiritually abusive boyfriend Godfrey, who is heavily into bizarre religious practices. The only way to freedom is murder. However, even after his death, Godfrey goes on pursuing Nick.

Watch our exclusive clip and get a terrifying glimpse at Godfrey:

Barch told Rue Morgue, “[Dead End] is my statement about living with anxiety in Russia, being haunted by your memories and fear, and a [response] to David Robert Mitchell and hisĀ It Follows, [which] I loved. I wrote the story right after I broke up with my ex who scared me, with a lot of additional notes on being educated in that masculine, hyper-strict society.

Barch’s second short film, The Power of the Strike, is also currently touring the festival circuit. This time, Barch opted to film in English with Berlin as the main filming location. The short had its premiere earlier this year at Panic Fest.

Sviatoslav Rogozhan, Daniil Gazzizulin, Yan Tsapnik, and Danil Chernov star in Dead End.

Dead End is playing as part of the shorts program at the 2024 Portland Horror Film Festival. Don’t miss what might be your final chance to see it!
