Rob Zombie’s filmmaking career has been pretty hit or miss. He has dealt with more than his share of outspoken critics. But the filmmaker-turned-director isn’t afraid to lob criticisms of his own. In an interview with Revolver, Zombie named his picks for the five worst horror films of all time. On that list is the 2001 horror sequel The Mummy Returns.

“This was a 10th generation crappy Raiders of the Lost Ark rip-off,” Zombie told Revolver. “But I can’t really pick it apart that closely because I couldn’t get all the way through it. That, to me, is a sign of a bad movie.”

In his defense, the follow-up effort isn’t exactly a classic. Moreover, I don’t think the picture has aged particularly well in the years since its release. But if you’re keen to pay the flick a repeat visit (or to experience it for the first time), you can find The Mummy Returns streaming on Peacock as of the publication of this post.

The plot crunch goes like this: The evil mummy Imhotep returns to wreak havoc as he resumes his relentless search for power and immortality. To make matters worse, another ancient evil has been unleashed, even more dangerous than Imhotep. Only the heroic Rick O’Connell and his intrepid Egyptologist wife stand in the way of these twin terrors as they embark upon a desperate mission to save the world.

The film’s talent roster includes Brendan Fraser, Rachel Weisz, John Hannah, Arnold Vosloo,
Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, and Oded Fehr.
