The Highest-Grossing Thriller of the Year is Now the Most-Watched Movie On Prime Video: “The perfect blockbuster”
An explosive film has landed its way on top of the streaming charts on Prime Video this week. Christopher Nolan’s latest film, Oppenheimer, which dominated at the box office last summer and grossed over $976.1 million, is now dominating the streaming charts almost a year after its initial release.
In the film,
“During World War II, Lt. Gen. Leslie Groves Jr. appoints physicist J. Robert Oppenheimer to work on the top-secret Manhattan Project. Oppenheimer and a team of scientists spend years developing and designing the atomic bomb. Their work comes to fruition on July 16, 1945, as they witness the world’s first nuclear explosion, forever changing the course of history.”
It’s been almost a year since the epic Barbenheimer event that rocked movie theaters across the world when both Oppenheimer and Barbie hit theaters at the same time. It was a cultural moment that inspired memes, t-shirts, costumes, and plenty of hilarious tweets, including the one below:
Look, we can argue until we’re blue in the face about whether Oppenheimer counts as a horror movie. While it doesn’t feature ghosts, ghouls, or terrifying killers, Nolan’s latest is a terrifying look at history and the man who created mankind’s most deadly weapon. It’s a different kind of horror, yes, but a terrifying one nonetheless, especially for people like myself who are terrified about the idea of a nuclear attack.
Plus, Cillian Murphy is prime creepy horror guy material. Just look at this performance in Wes Craven’s underrated airplane thriller Red Eye or as the Scarecrow in Nolan’s Batman films or as Jim in 28 Days Later. While his portrayal of Oppenheimer is much more subdued and calculated, the way he uses his face and eyes in the film shows how haunted this character truly is.
While Murphy is the show’s star, the cast also boasts Robert Downey, Jr., Emily Blunt, Florence Pugh, Josh Hartnett, Matt Damon, Benny Safdie, Gary Oldman, Jack Quaid, Josh Peck, Olivia Thirlby, and David Dastmalchian.
Now that the film has hit Prime Video, more people are discovering Nolan’s latest historical epic and falling in love with the star-studded cast, the harrowing story, Murphy’s performance, and yes, those sex scenes.
