Once Forgotten Liam Neeson Survival Thriller Finds New Life On the Prime Video Charts

Liam Neeson The Grey

I will watch almost any thriller in which Liam Neeson appears. He brings a nuanced stoicism to his roles, making the characters he plays nearly impossible not to invest in. It seems Prime Video subscribers share my affinity for the Irish actor. The Grey, a survival thriller he toplined, is now climbing the charts. The picture currently sits as the third-most watched movie on the platform.

When it debuted in 2011, the snowbound chiller made a splash with critics and fans alike. The feature is ‘certified fresh’ on Rotten Tomatoes, with an 80% approval rating from critics and a 61% approval rating from users. The thrilling survival epic finds new fans as it dominates the Prime Video streaming charts.

Aside from Neeson, the film also stars Dermot Mulroney, Frank Grillo, Dallas Roberts, Joe Anderson, and Nonso Anozie. Joe Carnahan (Smokin’ Aces) directed the flick and co-wrote the screenplay with Ian Mackenzie Jeffers, who penned the short story upon which the script is based.

In case you are unfamiliar with the setup, it goes like this: Following a grueling five-week shift at an Alaskan oil refinery, workers led by sharpshooter John Ottway (Neeson) are flying home for a much-needed vacation. A brutal storm causes their plane to crash in the frozen wilderness, and only eight men (Grillo, Mulroney), including Ottway, survive. As they trek southward toward civilization and safety, Ottway and his companions must battle mortal injuries, the icy elements, and a pack of hungry wolves.
