James Cameron seems to have the Midas touch. The Avatar director consistently delivers box office results and wows viewers and critics alike with his epic narratives and grandiose world-building. The celebrated filmmaker has been on a hot streak since the ‘80s and shows no signs of slowing down. Speaking of Cameron’s ‘80s output, one of his early career efforts, which boasts an impressive Rotten Tomatoes critical approval rating of 100%, is now free to stream on Tubi. I’m talking about The Terminator.

For anyone not familiar with the setup, it goes like this:

Disguised as a human, a cyborg assassin known as a Terminator (Schwarzenegger) travels from 2029 to 1984 to kill Sarah Connor (Hamilton). Sent to protect Sarah is Kyle Reese (Biehn), who divulges the coming of Skynet, an artificial intelligence system that will spark a nuclear holocaust. Sarah is targeted because Skynet knows that her unborn son will lead the fight against them. With the virtually unstoppable Terminator in hot pursuit, she and Kyle attempt to escape.

The Terminator is one of the most impressive action pictures of the past 40 years. The film’s strong performances, iconic special effects work, and dynamic emotional core make The Terminator a timeless classic that never loses its appeal.

The film features an exceptional cast that includes the likes of Arnold Schwarzenegger, Linda Hamilton, Michael Biehn, Paul Winfield, and Lance Henriksen. Aside from directing the 1984 actioner, James Cameron also wrote the screenplay with Roger Corman’s protege Gale Anne Hurd.
