Guillermo del Toro knows how to properly terrify moviegoers like few others can. So, when he champions another director’s ability to do the same, we are quick to take note. The Oscar-winning filmmaker recently took to Twitter to share his enthusiastic recommendation for a recent release that got under his skin (in a good way). I’m talking about Longlegs.

In Longlegs:

FBI Agent Lee Harker is assigned to an unsolved serial killer case that takes an unexpected turn, revealing evidence of the occult. Harker discovers a personal connection to the killer and must stop him before he strikes again.

The Crimson Peak director was taken by the latest offering from Neon, saying: “Longlegs (2024) A great Oz Perkins film- 100% his vibe. It is comforting when a colleague fares well while staying faithful to the rhythms and motifs that have made his career. His metronome, his meticulous composition and his uncanny sense of evil and impending doom.”

In a follow-up tweet, del Toro went on to praise Perkins’ signature style, saying: “It’s not horror as usual, or a thriller as usual. It bares the same preoccupations Oz has had from the start and his Cosmic dread. It is his vibe and signature and I am delighted he is getting more people to know it.”

In addition to directing, Perkins also wrote the screenplay for Longlegs. The film stars Maika Monroe, Nicolas Cage, Blair Underwood, Alicia Witt, Michelle Choi-Lee, and Dakota Daulby.
