This Horror Fantasy Is The Most-Watched Film on Netflix
Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire may not be a sequel that gets everything right. But fans saw past the film’s flaws and connected with the picture. The sequel made more than $200 million at the global box office during its theatrical bow. And the flick continues to gain traction beyond that. The latest series installment made its subscription streaming debut on Netflix yesterday and already stands as the most-watched film on the platform.
For anyone unfamiliar, the setup goes as follows:
The Spengler family returns to the iconic New York City firehouse where the original Ghostbusters have taken ghost-busting to the next level. When the discovery of an ancient artifact unleashes an evil force, Ghostbusters new and old must unite to protect their home and save the world from a second ice age.
The film is a sequel to Ghostbusters: Afterlife and stands as the fifth entry in the Ghostbusters franchise. Frozen Empire holds a critical approval rating of 42% on Rotten Tomatoes. However, the audience score is an impressive 83%, proving that the franchise still has a very loyal fanbase.
If you haven’t seen Frozen Empire yet, you can head over to Netflix and see where you stand.
The film’s cast includes Paul Rudd, Carrie Coon, Finn Wolfhard, Mckenna Grace, Kumail Nanjiani, and Patton Oswalt. Additionally, franchise stalwarts Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, and Ernie Hudson reprise their roles from the 1984 original. Gil Kenan and Jason Reitman penned the screenplay. Kenan was also at the helm.
