Stephen King Digs This Brutal Horror-Western Streaming on Netflix: “Beware the last act…”

Stephen King consumes a lot of content. It seems he’s always weighing in on something he recently watched. Earlier today, the best-selling author took to Twitter to share a recommendation that made a profound impression. Better yet, the film in question is currently streaming on Netflix. I’m talking about Bone Tomahawk.

If you’re not familiar with the setup, Bone Tomahawk plays out like this:

In the Old West, a sheriff (Russell), his deputy (Jenkins), a gunslinger (Fox), and a cowboy (Wilson) embark on a mission to rescue three people from a savage group of cave dwellers.

King’s tweet reveals that he took in the film on a whim and was pleasantly surprised with the experience. The author took care to praise the picture’s dialogue but warned that the depiction of onscreen violence is a lot to take in.

King’s tweet reads: “Bone Tomahawk: I was expecting nothing but a time-passer on a rainy Wednesday morning, and got a low-budget Western epic. The dialogue alone makes it well worth watching. Beware the last act, when a man is literally torn apart.”

If King’s recommendation isn’t enough to sway you, allow me to add that the film holds a 91% critical approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes and a 7.1 out of 10 user score on IMDb. Not too shabby. In our review, we wrote about the film,

“This film will not only appeal to the horror fanatic in all of us, but is able to cross those rusty railroad tracks and venture over into the western movie lovers’ territory for a more than worthwhile watch – highly recommended.”

The feature’s impressive cast includes Kurt Russell, Patrick Wilson, Matthew Fox, Richard Jenkins, Lili Simmons, Evan Jonigkeit, and David Arquette. The film is written and directed by S. Craig Zahler.
