mind body spirit

In a sea of genre films tackling the world of influencers, co-directors and writers Alex Henes and Matthew Merenda created a found footage nightmare that stands out amongst the crowd. With their film Mind Body Spirit, they were able to craft a new kind of influnecer horror, one that truly looks at the isolation and desperation behind someone just searching for connection. And now, the found footage gem is coming to Blu-ray thanks to Welcome Villain and Massacre Video!

In the film,

Anya, an aspiring yoga influencer, embarks on a ritual practice left behind by her estranged grandmother. What starts as a spiritual self-help guide quickly evolves into something much more sinister. As Anya becomes obsessed with the mysterious power of the practice, she unwittingly unleashes an otherworldly entity that begins to take control of her life—and her videos. Now Anya must race to unlock the truth, before her descent into madness threatens to consume her mind, body and spirit.

Mind Body Spirit was released on May 7 on digital and is currently at 94% on RottenTomatoes. The film premiered at the Telluride Horror Show, with other festival appearances including Chattanooga Film Festival, Unnamed Footage Festival, and more.

In her review of the film out of Chattanooga Film Festival, Dread Central’s editor-in-chief Mary Beth McAndrews wrote,

“With its investigation of intergenerational trauma through an unmoored millennial, Mind Body Spirit is a found footage version of Hereditary. It may not pack the same punch as Aster’s modern masterpiece, but it’s still operating in those terrifying realms where those we love the most only wish us harm. On the surface, it may seem like another influencer horror, but really, Mind Body Spirit is an effective contemporary piece of found footage that subtly captures the horrors of being a millennial.”
