This Biting Horror Comedy Is the #1 Film on Peacock

comedy

Abigail has wound down its theatrical run and the horror comedy recently made its streaming debut on Peacock. The film was a modest success, taking in $42 million at the global box office against an estimated budget of $28 million. However, in the streaming era, box office results aren’t everything. And speaking of streaming, the picture currently holds the #1 position on the Peacock charts.

In case you are unfamiliar, the setup goes like this:

A group of would-be criminals kidnaps the 12-year-old daughter of a powerful underworld figure. Holding her for ransom in an isolated mansion, their plan starts to unravel when they discover their young captive isn’t as defenseless as she seems.

The trailer is embedded below. However, it gives a bit too much away for my taste. If you haven’t seen the film yet, proceed with caution.

If you haven’t seen this biting horror comedy, there’s no time like the present to remedy that. If you’re a Peacock subscriber, you’ve got nothing to lose. I had a great time with Abigail. It runs a bit too long at the end. But the gore is on point and the comedy lands more often than not. Not to mention, the performances from the film’s ensemble cast are solid.

Speaking of the cast, the film’s talent roster includes the likes of Melissa Barrera, Dan Stevens, Alisha Weir, William Catlett, Kathryn Newton, Kevin Durand, and the late Angus Cloud.

In her review of the film, Dread Central’s editor-in-chief Mary Beth McAndrews wrote:

Simply put, Abigail is a bloody good time that makes vampires fun and nasty again. It’s great to see that Radio Silence still has it even after being wrung through the Scream machine. A strong ensemble and razor-sharp script make this a major horror release worth celebrating.

Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett of the filmmaking collective Radio Silence are at the helm. They directed the film from a script by Stephen Shields and Guy Busick.

That’s all we’ve got for you, for the time being. Stay tuned to Dread Central for more updates on which films are making waves on the streaming charts. Also, be sure to follow us on Twitter so you never miss an update.
