TIFF’s 2024 Midnight Madness Program Brings Horror and Chaos to Toronto; Opens With Demi Moore Shocker ‘The Substance’

The Toronto International Film Festival is known for hosting a barrage of horror classics, and every year the fest debuts a prestige selection of exciting new genre fare. 2024 looks to be no different now that TIFF’s Midnight Madness program has been officially unveiled. The dark underbelly of (arguably) the world’s most exciting film festival looks to be reliably chock full of genre cinema.

Perhaps the most exciting title in this year’s lineup is the North American premiere of Coralie Fargeat’s The Substance. The body-horror arthouse nightmare made a gnarly splash at Cannes earlier this year. Now we finally get a chance to check out Demi Moore and Margaret Qualley get nasty in Fargeat’s follow-up to the incredible Revenge.

Other horror titles in the mix include the found-footage delight It Doesn’t Get Any Better Than This, Timo Tjahjanto’s hotly anticipated world premiere of The Shadow Strays, and the gooey sci-fi itle Ick from the chaotic mind of visionary filmmaker Joesph Khan (Detention).
