A jarring true crime series is captivating Netflix subscribers, making the show in question the most-watched television program on the platform today. The property of which I speak is Dirty Pop: The Boy Band Scam.

If you grew up in the ‘90s, you likely have vivid memories of groups like LFO, O-Town, *NSYNC, and Backstreet Boys. This docuseries shines the spotlight on Lou Pearlman, the predatory businessman responsible for bringing some of the most celebrated boy bands of all time together.

The true crime series profiles Pearlman’s financial struggles, his pervasive abuse of power, and the criminal and civil challenges eventually brought against the disgraced mogul. The program digs into how the late talent agent made superstars out of young people he discovered. The series further exposes the various ways in which Pearlman exploited the group members along the way and speaks to allegations of sexual abuse and the elaborate Ponzi scheme upon which Pearlman built his empire.

Members of the bands Pearlman assembled are profiled within and the subjects are given the chance to share their unfiltered experiences.

If you’re curious to check this true crime series out for yourself, head over to Netflix and give it a whirl. The show is comprised of just 3 episodes. Each runs around 45 minutes in length. So, it’s not a serious time commitment.
