A Take on the La Llorona Tale is On its Way that Will Make You WeepThe legend of La Llorona is a truly frightening bit of folklore, but as of yet no one has done it justice movie-wise. Thankfully a new flick is on the way that is looking to change that, and you’re gonna Weep when you read the news!

From the Press Release
BoulderLight Pictures is proud to announce WEEP, a new horror film inspired by the coveted “La Llorona” legend, set to go into production in the spring of 2014. Written by Blood List writers T.J. Cimfel and David White, the project is set to be a modern take on the classic ghost story.

“We’re incredibly excited to be bringing this terrifying and rich legend to North American audiences,” said producer J.D. Lifshitz. “David and T.J. have helped cook up something truly scary and original, and we hope to thrill fans of the legend as well as garner new ones.”

BoulderLight Pictures is working off of the success of their recently released body-horror pic Contracted (via IFC Midnight) to deliver WEEP to an even larger audience, utilizing a bigger budget and higher profile cast. The filmmakers are bridging the gap in the marketplace by making a film to satisfy a wide array of distinctive moviegoers from the Hispanic community to horror and thriller fans and genre-loving cinephiles alike.

“It’s no big secret that the Hispanic community makes up a substantial portion of moviegoers,” said producer Raphael Margules. “We couldn’t be more enthusiastic about bringing one of the most well-known characters in Hispanic folklore to life on the big screen in a way that both honors ‘La Llorona’ and frightens audiences to their core.”

While plot details are being kept under wraps, the film will tell of a modern haunting of the infamous weeping woman, “La Llorona,” set in America. Raphael Margules and JD Lifshitz are producing on behalf of BoulderLight Pictures.

Development Hell: The Unmade Horror Movie Podcast
Cary Fukanaga's IT (with Emily Gagne)
The Development Hell podcast revisits their episode on Cary Fukunaga’s (TRUE DETECTIVE) unmade adaptation of Stephen King’s IT! With guest Emily Gagne, this episode uncovered a very different (and darker) vision of Stephen King’s seminal work of terror. Emily Gagne is a filmmaker, podcaster and writer. She curates FINAL GIRL FASHION on Instagram, an account showcasing the killer outfits of women in horror. Emily also co-hosts the podcasts We Really Like Her! And What About Meryll? Together they cover the IT miniseries, both feature films and the classic Stephen King novel which started it all. That’s when they dive into Cary Fukunaga’s and Chase Palmer's 2014 draft of the IT adaptation which was ultimately cancelled. Furthermore, they explore the nitty-gritty differences between the Andy Muschietti vision of Derry and how it compares to the Fukanga/Chase draft.Emily and Josh also speculate wildly about why Warner Brothers jumped ship after developing IT with Fukanga for nearly five years. If you are a fan of Stephen King’s IT and Pennywise the Dancing Clown? If so, you won't want to miss this episode. Do you think the recent films did the book justice? Let us know on social media! You’ll float too … but only if you subscribe to the pod on Apple, Spotify or anywhere you get your podcasts! Development Hell is also a proud member of the Dread Podcast Network. For every horror title to hit V.O.D, countless others end up D.O.A! Development Hell is the podcast dedicated to unearthing these cursed horror productions — to find out what went wrong — and decide if they still stand a shot at the green light.Make sure to check out past episodes including Neill Blomkamp’s Alien V, the cancelled Hellraiser reboot, and Freddy vs Jason vs Ash!Follow the Podcast: @DevelopmentHell on Instagram @DevelHellPod on Twitter @JoshKorngut on bothFollow Emily Gagne: @EmilyGagne on Twitter @LadyGagagne on Instagram @FinalGirlFashion on Instagram
