Anna Halberg and Spenser Cohen’s 2024 theatrical release Tarot was welcomed with mixed emotions. Some loved its over-the-top kills and stellar creature design by Trevor Henderson. Others weren’t fans of the dialogue and the liberties taken when it came to the rules of tarot. But recently, the film hit Netflix and it’s already skyrocketing up the charts. In fact, it’s the number one horror film on the streamer and the #3 most-watched film overall.

Read the full synopsis below:

A group of friends recklessly violate the sacred rule of Tarot—never use someone else’s deck—and unknowingly unleash an unspeakable evil trapped within the cursed cards. One by one, they come face to face with fate and end up in a race against death to escape the future foretold in their readings.

Us at Dread Central were on the positive side of the fence on Tarot. In his review of the film, Dread Central’s Josh Korngut wrote,

Tarot, a back-to-basics teen fright-fest, is a nostalgic bat out of hell for millennial horror hounds. It feels like a complete fish-out-water in 2024; a handsome medieval knight drop shipped into downtown Manhattan, unsure how to hold a smartphone or navigate the subway. This jarring horror anachronism is utterly pure-of-heart, has very little to say, and is an absolute blast for the horror fan willing to let go of all pretension and cosplay like it’s 2006 all over again.

Plus, Henderson wasn’t the only horror creative brought it to help bring this vision to light. Composer Joesph Bishara, responsible for the terrifying sounds of the Insidious franchise, scored the film, with singer-songwriter Daniel Knox contributing a haunting song for a particularly memorable death sequence.

Now that the film has hit Netflix, the reactions from excited Twitter users have started pouring in. Check out a few of them below:
