James Wan Recommends Once Forgotten, Now Free to Stream ’80s Horror For “Great style”

James Wan

James Wan knows a thing or two about what makes a horror film effective. One need look no further than the filmmaker’s output since bursting onto the scene with Saw to confirm that. So, when Wan speaks to the merits of a genre picture, you know we are quick to take note and share his thoughts with our readers.

In an interview with Film Comment, Wan spoke about some of his guilty pleasures and pictures that have shaped the trajectory of his cinematic output. During that exchange, Wan told the outlet that he has a soft spot for the under-seen horror thriller Razorback.

“I love Razorback.,” Wan began. “I’m a big Russell Mulcahy fan and I think he’s one of the most talented visual directors out there. This was the first movie he made that showed he had such a great style. The Eighties music video and commercial scene would not be remembered for what it was today if it weren’t for Russell Mulcahy and Ridley Scott.”

If you are keen to check out the flick after Wan’s enthusiastic recommendation, you are in luck. Razorback is currently available to stream on Hoopla. Similar to Kanopy, Hoopla is free to just about anyone with a library card. Hooray!

In case you are unfamiliar, the setup for Razorback goes like this: A big Australian pig attacks an old man (Bill Kerr), grabs a baby, and kills a newswoman; her husband (Gregory Harrison) investigates.
