At the tail end of last week, Purge 2 star Zach Gilford (Devil’s Due) spilled some plot details for the upcoming sequel, which will expand on the clever concept of the budding franchise. Today we learn a bit about the character he’ll be playing. Read on!
In an interview with the Chicago Tribune, Gilford revealed that a strange twist of fate resulted in his real-life wife, Kiele Sanchez, playing the role of his character’s wife in the film.
“She went out for a role, but for whatever reason they thought she didn’t look old enough,” he told the paper, “so they offered her another role that happens to be my wife. It’s super weird to be in scenes together. It took a while to get used to.”
A small tidbit of info, but we’ll take all we can get!
The sequel also stars Frank Grillo, Michael K. Williams, Carmen Ejogo, Jasper Cole, Zoe Borde, and Chad Morgan.
Look for it in theaters on Friday, June 20, 2014. Writer/director/producer James DeMonaco returns and will be joined by producers Jason Blum, Sebastien Lemercier, and Michael Bay’s Platinum Dunes.
The original was set in the future as a wealthy family is held hostage for harboring the target of a murderous syndicate during the Purge, a 12-hour period in which any and all crime is legalized. None of the characters will return for the sequel, which will take place primarily on the streets, rather than inside of a home.
