‘The Mouse Trap’ Exclusive Clip: A Very Bloody Birthday

the mouse trap

Many of you are surely familiar with the image of Steamboat Willie, the earliest version of Disney’s Mickey Mouse, a mouse at the helm of a steamboat, whistling a jolly tune. Well, Steamboat Willie entered the public domain this year and, of course, that means we’re getting a horror film adaptation about this childhood figure. Director James Bailey is tackling everyone’s famous mouse in The Mouse Trap, where a murderous mouse ruins one woman’s 21st birthday.

In the film:

Stuck working the late shift at the amusement park arcade, Alex receives a surprise visit from her friends on her 21st birthday. However, their night of fun soon turns into a fight for survival when a killer dressed as a very well-known mouse crashes the party.

In our exclusive clip from the film, you’ll get a look at the masked killer, as well as a taste of how he likes to play with his prey.

Director Jamie Bailey said,

The Mouse Trap film is famously the first horror film to use the Mickey Mouse character from Steamboat Willie. We just wanted to have fun with it all. I mean it’s Steamboat Willie‘s Mickey Mouse murdering people. It’s ridiculous. We ran with it and had fun doing it and I think it shows.”

Simon Phillips stars as the film’s villain alongside Sophie McIntosh, Nick Biskupek, Allegra Nocira, Mackenzie Mills, and Mireille Gagné.

Phillips said of the film,

“We have a childlike excitement to show the world the film! We love the amazing work Walt Disney created here and we love the creative freedom that the character coming into the public domain provided. Fun. That’s what we had making it and what you will get watching it.”

Paul Whitney, Mark Popejoy, Alexander Gausman, and Andrew Agopsowicz produced the film, with Filmcore’s Mem Ferda serving as co-producer.

The Mouse Trap is out now on digital and VOD and comes to Blu-ray and DVD on August 13, 2024, from Gravitas Ventures.
