‘The Babadook’ Comes Back To Theaters This Fall For Its 10-Year Anniversary

Jennifer Kent’s The Babadook changed the landscape of horror when it was released in 2014. You could say it helped launch the elevated horror trend, especially in how the film addresses grief, trauma, and what it means to be a parent. Now, to celebrate a decade of the gay icon (yes, The Babadook briefly became a gay icon), IFC and Iconic Events Releasing are bringing the film back to theaters.

Read the full synopsis below:

Six years after the violent death of her husband, Amelia (Essie Davis) is at a loss. She struggles to discipline her ‘out of control’ 6-year-old, Samuel (Noah Wiseman), a son she finds impossible to love. Samuel’s dreams are plagued by a monster he believes is coming to kill them both. When a disturbing storybook called ‘The Babadook’ turns up at their house, Samuel is convinced that the Babadook is the creature he’s been dreaming about. His hallucinations spiral out of control, he becomes more unpredictable and violent. Amelia, genuinely frightened by her son’s behavior, is forced to medicate him. But when Amelia begins to see glimpses of a sinister presence all around her, it slowly dawns on her that the thing Samuel has been warning her about may be real.

But that’s not at all! Kent will be attending some of these special screenings for live Q&As and discussions about her film. An exclusive recorded Q&A will be included at all screenings.

Essie Davis, Noah Wiseman, Hayley McElhinney, Daniel Henshall, Barbara West, and Ben Winspear star in the film.
