‘Apartment 7A’ Trailer: Before Rosemary, There Was Terry

Ira Levin’s Rosemary’s Baby has shaped the horror landscape since the novel’s release in 1967. The film inspired generations of filmmakers with its claustrophobic religious horror and slow-burn terror. Now, Natalie Erika James is tackling a new story in that universe, titled Apartment 7A. But James isn’t simply remaking the horror classic. Her new film takes place before the events of the original film, giving more context to the Bramford’s storied past.

In the film:

An ambitious young dancer Terry Gionoffrio (Julia Garner, Ozark) dreams of fame and fortune in New York City, but after suffering a devastating injury, an older, wealthy couple (Dianne Wiest, I Care a Lot, and Kevin McNally, Pirates of the Caribbean film series) welcomes her into their home in the luxury apartment building the Bramford.

When fellow resident and influential Broadway producer (Jim Sturgess, Across the Universe) offers her another chance at fame, it seems that all her dreams are finally coming true. However, after an evening she can’t fully remember, disturbing circumstances soon have her second-guessing the sacrifices she’s willing to make for her career as she realizes that something evil is living not only in Apartment 7A, but in the Bramford itself.

James made her feature film debut in 2020 with her heartbreaking tale of matrilineal horror, Relic. Her approach to degenerative illnesses along with themes of anomalous architecture melded together to create a wholly unique and devastating horror film. She proved her directorial chops in spades and now she’s tackling a popular series.

Julia Garner, Dianne Wiest, Jim Sturgess, Kevin McNally, Marli Siu, Andrew Buchan, Rosy McEwen, and Kobna Holdbrook-Smith star in the film.

Apartment 7A comes to Paramount+ and VOD on September 27, 2024.
