Precious director Lee Daniels is making waves with his divisive new horror film on Netflix. The picture, which stars singer/songwriter Andra Day and Glenn Close currently sits as the most-watched selection on the platform. A surprising exchange featured within is currently going viral on social media.

I label the film as divisive because the reactions from critics and viewers alike have been fairly mixed and range from enthusiastic to critical. Some subscribers are connecting with the characters, the storyline, and the atmosphere.

Others have professed an appreciation for the film’s real-life connection to the story of Latoya Ammons, who experienced a series of hauntings and possessions that plagued her family. However, others have had less favorable reactions and criticized the film for leaning into the ridiculous and claiming the proceedings aren’t particularly scary.

Daniels directs from a screenplay penned by David Coggeshall and Elijah Bynum.

The film holds a critical approval rating of just 30% on Rotten Tomatoes. The popcorn meter is slightly more favorable at 52%.
