‘The Thicket’: Listen To An Exclusive Track From The New Western Thriller

Lakeshore Records is set to release The Thicket—Original Motion Picture Soundtrack digitally on September 13 featuring music by Ray Suen. While he’s worked with legendary artists across genres, The Thicket marks Suen’s film-scoring debut with driving and atmospheric soundscapes created on strings, synths, and pedal steel guitar that provide a dramatic accompaniment to the brutal Western thriller. Ahead of the score’s release, we have an exclusive track to tease the film’s chilling atmosphere.

When a bounty hunter and a band of unlikely heroes pursue a brutal killer, they find themselves in a deadly no-man’s-land known as the Thicket.

Suen said of the score:

‘Given the location in the icy tundra of Calgary, Alberta, I wanted to invoke the purple and blues of the freezing cold of the north in winter. In much of the score, I tried to evoke the tension and stillness that accompanies the chill. In a film filled with so many haunted and unhinged characters, the feeling of madness and isolation is channeled into the more cacophonous and dissonant pieces.”

A classically trained multi-instrumentalist, Suen has performed alongside an A-list of rock, alternative, pop, jazz, country, and hip-hop music royalty—from Vampire Weekend, The Killers, The Flaming Lips and The Breeders to Mariachi El Bronx, Lorde, Childish Gambino and Mickey Guyton.

Elliott Lester directed the film, which stars\ Peter Dinklage, Juliette Lewis, Levon Hawke, Esmé Creed-Miles, and James Hetfield. It’s streaming now on Tubi.
