Stephen King Raves About the #1 Thriller on Netflix, Calls it “One of the best”

I have been growing disenchanted by a lot of the content on streaming of late. A significant amount of the programming is formulaic, predictable, and objectively bad. I know there’s an audience for that. On occasion, I am that audience. However, a little bit of trash cinema goes a long way. So it’s nice to have the occasion to report that Netflix is coming through with some quality entertainment.

That’s right, we’re here to spread the word about a trending Netflix thriller that has won over Stephen King and the lion’s share of critics. What’s more, it’s from Jeremy Saulnier, the director of Green Room. If you haven’t already pieced it together, I’m talking about the recently released action thriller Rebel Ridge. The film is currently the top thriller on Netflix and the 2nd most watched film overall.

The great Stephen King has done some reconnaissance and has nothing but praise for the flick. He took to Twitter to share the following endorsement: “Rebel Ridge: If this is a Netflix original, it’s one of the best. A thinking man’s Rambo. No diss to David Morrell.”

If you’re not familiar with the reference, David Morrell is the author who wrote the novels from which the Rambo films were adapted.

Rebel Ridge has been catching fire since its debut on the streamer on September 6th. The film racked up 31.2 million views during its first three days on Netflix. In the week that followed, the picture nabbed another 38.6 million plays. That’s major.

When I said the film has won over the majority of critics, I meant it. Mere days from release Rebel Ridge is already ‘certified fresh’ on Rotten Tomatoes, with a critical approval score of 96%. At this point, you’re out of reasons not to check the film out.

I am an action movie enthusiast and a fan of Saulnier’s work. Needless to say, I’ve added this one to my watchlist. The trailer looks rather promising. But you don’t have to take my word for it. You can scope it in the player below.

The setup for Rebel Ridge goes as follows: A former Marine confronts corruption in a small town when local law enforcement unjustly seizes the bag of cash he needs to post his cousin’s bail.

That’s all we have at present. Stay tuned to the site for more recommendations from your favorite creatives as we uncover them. Also, be sure to follow @DreadCentral on the social media platform formerly known as Twitter so you never miss an exciting update.
