A24’s ‘Heretic’ Debuts Hellish New Trailer and Poster; Release Date Changed

Heretic

Following a splashy world premiere at TIFF, the A24 Hugh Grant vehicle Heretic has dropped a new trailer and poster. Heck yes! Better yet, you can now see the film a week earlier than originally promised. The release date has moved forward from November 15 to November 8.

Heretic is one of the forthcoming 2024 releases I’m most anticipating. I love to see Hugh Grant break out of his shell and take on a darker persona. We recently got to see him deviate from the typical nice guy roles for which he’s best known in HBO’s The Undoing and I look forward to seeing more of the actor’s dark side in Heretic.

Have a look at the newly debuted one sheet directly below.

It would’ve been easy to cast an actor known for darker roles as the mysterious Mr. Reed. But featuring a thespian who is well-known to play disarming characters immediately ups the ante. It establishes a false sense of security, only to upend that expectation. There’s something to be said for not playing it safe.

The new trailer, which you can scope in the player below, is dripping with atmosphere. But that’s no great surprise, seeing as the picture is helmed by none other than Scott Beck and Bryan Woods. If the names don’t ring a bell, they are the duo behind the cult horror film Haunt. Beck and Woods also famously wrote the screenplay for the smash hit A Quiet Place. In addition to sitting at the helm, Beck and Woods also penned the script for Heretic.

The early reviews have been overwhelmingly positive. The film ranks at 92% ‘fresh’ on Rotten Tomatoes as of the publication of this post. Our Josh Korngut rated the picture 3.5/5 and said: “Heretic is a surprisingly intense chamber piece with three excellent performances that help to lift the film high above its escape room-horror contemporaries.”

The setup for Heretic goes like this:

Two young missionaries are forced to prove their faith when they knock on the wrong door and are greeted by the diabolical Mr. Reed (Grant), becoming ensnared in his deadly game of cat-and-mouse.

In addition to Grant, the film stars Sophie Thatcher, Chloe East, and Elle Young.

That’s all we have for you at present. Will you be turning out to your local multiplex to see Heretic when it bows on November 8? Let us know on the social media platform formerly known as Twitter.
