Vera Farmiga Says New Line Waiting on James Wan for Conjuring SequelGiven the box office success of last year’s The Conjuring, it was inevitable that a sequel would follow. Hot on the heels of the announcement that a spin-off centering around the film’s creepy doll is on its way, Vera Farmiga spills some beans on the future of the budding franchise. Read on!

In an interview with Aint It Cool News, the star of The Conjuring expressed an eagerness to once again play the role of real-life paranormal investigator Lorraine Warren and a desire to get the ball rolling as soon as possible.

As you know, I cherish my collaborations with Patrick [Wilson] and with James [Wan], and I really have an admiration for the woman that I play. I think it’s an important story,” says Farmiga. “I’m not just making another horror flick. I really think this is the go-to gal for over the last five decades that people have gone to for discernment on certain negative mysticism. It’s a crazy subject matter. It’s bigger than my brain can contemplate. So, I’m hoping to see Conjuring 2 sooner than later.

So why hasn’t that ball begun rolling yet? According to Farmiga, New Line and Warner Bros. are waiting on James Wan, who recently stated that his days of making horror films are behind him.

I think it’s being figured out right now,” she told the site. “Because of course, we’d love to have James Wan at the helm, and he’s experienced a certain measure of… stress recently.”

Wan is currently working on Fast & Furious 7, which suffered a major setback after the tragic death of star Paul Walker. Will he return to the horror genre, or stick true to his word? And does another Conjuring film have any chance of succeeding without Wan at the helm? Only time will tell.

The spin-off, titled Annabelle, is currently in production.
