Bestselling author Stephen King has a massive social media following. He frequently uses his sizable platform to share his take on the content he has been consuming. In a recent tweet, King offered his thoughts on the new Halle Berry film Never Let Go.

King’s Tweet reads: “Never Let Go: A dark fairy tale for grownups. I enjoyed it. Halle Berry and a couple of fantastic little kids.”

This latest recommendation from Stephen King has been a box-office disappointment.

That’s reasonably high praise from a creative who knows a great plenty about crafting a scare. However, it seems the masses haven’t really turned out to see this R-rated horror film. The reactions I have seen so far have been mixed. I’ve observed a few viewers complain that the twist isn’t very well disguised. But maybe you should scope the flick for yourself and make up your own mind.

Never Let Go landed in theaters on September 20. To what I assume is the disappointment of the Lionsgate team, the picture has pulled in only $8,351,192 globally after 10 days. If this were a micro-budget flick acquired on the cheap, that might not be as devastating. But that minuscule return is on an estimated budget of no less than $20 million.

If I had to guess, I’d say that a large portion of the budget accounts for securing Berry in the lead role. She’s a (frequently) bankable star and an Oscar-winning actor. However, it seems her involvement wasn’t enough to drive viewers out to the multiplex. The film is bound to bow on Premium VOD soon and should (eventually) turn a profit at some point.

In addition to Berry, the film stars Anthony B. Jenkins, Stephanie Lavigne, Percy Daggs IV, and William Catlett.

The plot crunch for Never Let Go goes as follows:

When an unspeakable evil takes over the world, the only protection for a mother and her twin sons is their house and strong bond. Needing to stay connected at all times — even tethering themselves with ropes — they must cling to one another and never let go. However, when one of the boys questions if the evil is real, the ties that bind them together are severed, triggering a terrifying fight for survival.
