This Twisted ‘Companion’ Teaser Trailer Promises “A new kind of love story”

Companion

New Line Cinema just dropped a teaser trailer for an upcoming sci-fi horror thriller produced by the twisted minds behind Barbarian. The picture is called Companion. If the teaser is any indication of what’s in store, this flick is going to be intense and surprising. I mean it when I say that I am quite optimistic.

Under different circumstances, I might delve more into what the hell the film is about at this juncture. But story details are being kept pretty well under wraps so far. The picture’s IMDb page simply has a blank slot where the plot crunch would normally go, and the film’s Wikipedia listing mostly speaks to the talent involved without dishing any story-related details. I actually really like that. When I go into a new movie, I often prefer to head in as blind as possible. Marketing materials sometimes give away details the filmmakers would prefer we not be privy to prior to watching the film. So, I’m perfectly happy to come away from the teaser with my curiosity piqued.

One thing I’m not uncertain about is that Jack Quaid (who plays Richie in the Scream franchise) promises to be delightfully unhinged in his turn as the film’s male lead. He has a sinister glint in his eye and appears fully committed to the role.

Check out the Companion teaser for yourself in the player below to see what you think.

This twisted take on a love story is written and directed by Drew Hancock (Suburgatory). Raphael Margules, J.D. Lifshitz, Zach Cregger, and Roy Lee, the team behind Barbarian are producing. Principal photography on the project wrapped in December of 2023.

The cast:

In addition to Quaid, the film stars Sophie Thatcher of Yellowjackets, Lukas Gage (Smile 2), Megan Suri (Missing), Harvey Guillén (What We Do in the Shadows), and Rupert Friend (A Simple Favor).

If you’re curious to learn more about Companion, New Line marketing has set up a text message promo allowing you to ‘Find your companion today.’ If you’re keen to give it a shot and find out exactly what finding your companion entails, the phone number is 978-878-5683. Messaging and data rates obviously apply.

That’s all we have for you at present, dear reader. If the teaser has you ready for more, you can scope the film in theaters beginning January 10, 2025. Stay tuned to the site for more updates on Companion as we learn them.
