Stephen King is Freaked Out by New Peacock Streaming Series; Calls it “Creepy, claustrophobic and scary”
While it’s devastating that the SyFy network has canceled Chucky, there are, at least, plenty of sensational new horror series hitting the small screen this Halloween season. From, a personal favorite of mine, has just premiered its third season, and for better or worse, Ryan Murphy’s latest horror series, Grotesquerie, just landed on FX and Hulu.
Totally Killer star Julie Bowen will be appearing in Hysteria! alongside Bruce Campbell in late October. Lastly, Ian McCulloch’s Teacup is poised to hit Peacock on October 10. That series, in particular, has attracted the praise of Stephen King, who called the new show “All killer, no filler.”
Check out a trailer and synopsis below:
Per Peacock: Teacup follows a disparate group of people in rural Georgia who must come together in the face of a mysterious threat in order to survive. Inspired by the New York Times bestselling novel Stinger by Robert McCammon.
Teacup stars Yvonne Strahovski (Dexter), Scott Speedman (The Strangers), Chase Spencer, and Kathy Baker. Not much is known about the series beyond what the trailer reveals. James Wan of The Conjuring and Insidious fame (or Malignant, if you’re that kind of person) is producing. There looks to be plenty of striking horror imagery, including a terrifying guy in a gas mask, and that was enough to send Stephen King soaring over the moon.
In a tweet about the series, Stephen King remarked, “Teacup: If you like From or Lost, I think you’ll enjoy this.” He goes on to share his thoughts on the show, spotlighting the Gas Mask Man in particular. You can check out his entire tweet embedded below:
Peacock themselves cheekily replied that the series was now “King Approved.” While your October catalog might be packed to the brim with scares, it sounds like Teacup is worth carving some space out for. This is also not the first horror show Stephen King has recommended this year. The master of horror remains a big fan of MGM+’s From. More recently, King joined the choir of voices begging for Paramount+ series Evil to be renewed after it was announced the show’s fourth season would be the last.
Stephen King loves horror, and for the most part, he’s never led me astray. Teacup looks terrifying, and I am excited to check it out for myself. The Gas Mask Man is no doubt going to be haunting my nightmares for months to come.
What do you think? Does Teacup look as scary as it sounds? How often do Stephen King’s recommendations work for you? Let me know over on Twitter @Chadiscollins.
