Happy first Friday of Halloween, everyone! Now that we’re officially in October, I know many of us are gorging on horror media like a kid with a full pillowcase of candy. While you may have a laundry list of films to watch, we have another recommendation to add to your list, though it isn’t a film. Instead, it’s the first full issue of The Lonesome Hunters by Tyler Crook from Dark Horse Comics. While Crook is no stranger to comics, as he’s worked on and co-created acclaimed series such as Harrow County, this marks his first time writing and illustrating his own original work. If you love monsters and the dynamic between a grizzled old man and his young protege, then read on!

An old and out-of-practice monster hunter in hiding crosses paths with a young girl that forces him to confront these chaotic creatures. As the beasts invade their tenement, they set off on a supernatural road trip to stop these ancient evils in a story that explores the ways that youth informs adulthood and how early traumas can haunt us in old age.

The first issue of The Lonesome Hunters was initially released in 2022, with a total of four issues released and then collected into one edition. The library edition, which contains all four issues of the original series plus the spin-off series The Lonesome Hunters: The Wolf Child, is available for pre-order.
