As the Halloween season begins to cast its shadow across the pop culture landscape, Invader Comics prepares to launch their annual campaign for the ‘spooky season’ starting with Marco Fontanili’s loving tribute to the 1922 silent film classic, Nosferatu: Behind the Horror and Death.

Perfectly timed to coincide with Robert Eggers’ new adaptation of the vampiric legend, which hits theaters later in the year, this gorgeous hardcover edition of Nosferatu: Behind the Horror and Death makes its debut on Zoop this week. The book pays homage to director F.W. Murnau’s chilling original and the strange story behind its creation. Carefully researched and painstakingly compiled over a number of years, the book is a true passion project, beautifully illustrated and brought to life by Fontanili’s deft hand.

“I had such a great experience with my last campaign on Zoop that it made sense to do it again,” says writer/artist, Marco Fontanili. “Working with them, and the incredible folks at Invader Comics, is exactly what I needed to bring this project to life. As a source of inspiration, Nosferatu has exerted a profound influence on my work, and I needed the right team to help deliver that message. This is easily my most important, and personal, creation to date.”

We have an exclusive preview of the beautiful new book, where you can get a glimpse at Fontanili’s gorgeous artwork and the care he poured into the volume.

In addition to Fontanili’s painstakingly detailed exploration of the history of the film and its enigmatic director, this high-end landscape hardcover edition features a wealth of extra material, including behind-the-scenes sketches, process drawings, and the author’s own journey to follow the path taken by F.W. Murnau’s skull, which was stolen soon after the director died.

“The team and I were blown away by the quality of Marco’s work from the moment we first encountered him,” adds Invader Comics editor-in-chief, Michael Perkins. “We hadn’t done anything with Zoop before, but Marco was adamant they were the right partner for this project, and we couldn’t agree more. Although readers will be able to order the softcover version through retail stores, the hardcover edition we’ve cooked up with Zoop is something else and really captures the depth of Marco’s love for Nosferatu and the story behind its creation.”

Nosferatu: Behind the Horror and Death is the cornerstone of Invader’s latest celebration of Halloween and the spooky season, and coincides with the upcoming launch of their Onyx The Fortuitous campaign with Andrew Bowser (more details to follow) along with the conclusion of Nico Mierez and Keith Foster’s Animals in retail stores the following month.
