The #1 Most-Watched Movie Across All Streaming Platforms is Now this Harrowing Hulu Horror Film

Hulu horror

A Hulu original horror movie is owning the streaming scene today. In fact, the film in question stands as the most-watched picture across all streaming services at this very moment. I’m talking about the period horror Hold Your Breath, a feature that debuted on the platform on October 3rd.

Despite drumming up plenty of views in its first week on the streamer, the film hasn’t been a big hit with critics so far. Hold Your Breath currently sits at a less-than-stellar critical approval rating of 46% on Rotten Tomatoes. The audience score (now simply known as the Popcornmeter) is only slightly more promising at 52%. The general consensus from both critics and moviegoers is that Sarah Paulson gives it her all but a lack of scares and questionable pacing derail the proceedings from ever truly finding its footing.

Our Chad Collins recently critiqued the film and had a similar reaction. He scored the picture 2.5/5 and said: Hold Your Breath is a swirling tempest of captivating ideas, though they never successfully congeal into anything that hasn’t been seen a dozen times before. Sarah Paulson shines, but Hold Your Breath gets lost in the storm.”

If you’re not put off by the lukewarm response from critics and movie lovers and you want to give Hold Your Breath a chance, head over to Hulu where you can do exactly that.

The film began life under the moniker Dust but was eventually renamed Hold Your Breath. The completed picture debuted as part of the ‘Special Presentations’ lineup at TIFF 2024.

The production originally cast British actress Claire Foy (The Girl in the Spider’s Web) in the lead role but she had to bow out due to scheduling conflicts. Sarah Paulson eventually replaced her. Amiah Miller, Alona Jane Robbins, Annaleigh Ashford, Ebon Moss-Bachrach, and Arron Shiver round out the core cast.

Karrie Crouse and William Joines co-directed the flick, with Crouse assuming screenwriting duties.

The setup for this Hulu original horror thriller goes like this:

In 1930s Oklahoma amid the region’s horrific dust storms, a woman is convinced that a sinister presence is threatening her family.
