The most-viewed movie on streaming service Max is probably one you haven’t heard of. Celine Held and Logan George’s Caddo Lake, a mind-bending, twisting temporal thriller, has dethroned the long-awaited Stephen King adaptation Salem’s Lot as the number one movie, horror or otherwise, streaming on Max.

The unpredictable, compelling thriller starring Dylan O’Brien and Eliza Scanlen has captivated viewers, surprising audiences everywhere with a delightful psychological treat just in time for the Halloween season. Check out more about Caddo Lake below:

Per Max: When an 8-year-old girl mysteriously vanishes, a series of past deaths and disappearances begin to link together.

Caddo Lake was produced by M. Night Shyamalan who (luckily) seems to be all over the 2024 horror scene. He produced his daughter Ishana Night Shyamalan’s Irish fight fest The Watchers, released back in June, and his own directorial output this year, August’s Trap, will undoubtedly remain one of the year’s most thrilling, outrageous treats.

Critically, Caddo Lake has been receiving rave reviews. As of this writing, the film is sitting at an 81% Critic Score and an 83% Popcornmeter on Rotten Tomatoes. The site’s critical consensus reads, “A windingly intricate and delirious sci-fi thrill ride washes over the senses and steadily flows through Caddo Lake.”

Audiences can’t to get enough of Caddo Lake, either. Since its premiere over the weekend, viewers have taken to social media to share their thoughts on the film’s twisty plot, and of course, Dylan O’Brien. The movie is being favorably compared to the likes of the Netflix series Dark and the best of M. Night Shyamalan’s early work. It’s an unpredictable, wild ride, chock full of fantastic performances and deep, worthwhile lore. Check out some choice social media reactions below:

The less you know about Caddo Lake going in, the better. Trust me, however, when I say it will be one of the most thrilling, surprising times you have with a movie this year. In an October full of must-watch horror and thriller titles, make sure to carve out some time and dive deep into Caddo Lake on Max. I promise you won’t regret it.

I want to hear what you think, though. Have you had a chance to check out Caddo Lake on Max? What else is worth checking out on Max? Be certain to let me know over on Twitter @Chadiscollins.
