Official - Will Smith NOT in Independence Day Sequel If you were hoping to see Will Smith leading a charge through an alien-infested landscape in the upcoming sequel to Independence Day, this next bit of news will surely leave you on the disappointed side of the fence.

Variety is reporting that Smith will definitely not be a part of ID Forever Part 1.

Roland Emmerich is still attached to direct with Dean Devlin set to produce. James Vanderbilt penned the script.

Roland Emmerich’s 1996 blockbuster Independence Day hit theaters on July 3, 1996, and went on to gross a still-impressive $817 million worldwide.

Look for the new flick in theatres on July 1, 2016 — or almost exactly 20 years after the original hit the big screen.
