This Horror-Loving Squirrel Knows How To Celebrate Halloween [Horror IRL]

Squirrel

Halloween is here, dear reader! I can almost hear the trick-or-treaters beating down my door to demand their sugary bounty. I can vividly picture myself cuddled up with the pets and my husband as we rewatch a handful of the best installments from the Halloween franchise. As we witness Michael Myers chase down wayward teenagers, we’ll be slipping into a chocolate-induced stupor (except for the pets, of course). This truly is the most wonderful time of the year, is it not?

A few years back, Vicky Freeman of Fareham, England got a glimpse of just how wonderful this time of year can be. She set out a macabre display in her backyard garden space. Thinking her grandchildren would get a kick out of it, Vicky hung a spooky Halloween mask on a string and filled the latex skull full of delicious candy.

Unfortunately for Vicky’s grandkids, a resourceful little creature got to the goods before they had a chance to enjoy the spoils. The creature in question is an eastern grey squirrel who apparently has something of a sweet tooth. Check out the image gallery below to see the little charmer raiding Ms. Freeman’s seasonal backyard installation in search of a festive treat.

In a brief exchange with Daily Mail, Freeman recalled the adorably cheeky incident, saying: “I always hang stuff up in my garden for the kids at Halloween but was surprised to see a squirrel so fascinated by the macabre skull it—looks really scary!”

The squirrel does look scary. Scary cute, that is. It’s the perfect juxtaposition and I simply cannot get enough of it.

I’m quite grateful to Vicky Freeman for coming up with a seasonal display that’s both clever and functional. But I am even more indebted to her for ensuring some photographic evidence of the ordeal that followed saw the light of day. Because what’s a story like this without pictures?
