‘Dark Corners’: Stephen King, Kate Siegel, Krys Fox and More Team Up for YouTube Horror Series for Kids!
A dream team of horror icons has come together to start a YouTube series for kids called Dark Corners. The creators involved are well-known genre enthusiasts and have children of their own. So, the channel’s output is tame enough to be safe for impressionable viewers. Each film starts with a ‘pumpkin rating’ letting the audience know exactly how scary each short is in advance. For example, the video in the player below is rated 3 out of 5 pumpkins.
Speaking of the shorts, the videos currently available on the channel are punchy animated stories that are likely to appeal to kids of all ages. The videos run between 4 and 7 minutes each. So, you shouldn’t have to worry about anyone growing bored. This content was made with short attention spans in mind and is likely to serve as a point of connection for parents wanting to share their love of the macabre with their youngsters in a safe space.
The series is created by Kate Siegel and Krsy Fox. Mali Elfman is the showrunner. The stable of writers includes Paul Tremblay, Heather Langenkamp, Kate Siegel, Krsy Fox, Mali Elfman, Alanah Pearce, and Stephen King. Yes, that Stephen King.

With a talented creative team like that, you’d expect some pretty remarkable content. I’ve scoped a couple of the videos and I am rather impressed. Even if you don’t have kids, the programming on the channel is well-packaged and engaging. The animation is unique. The voice acting is effective. The stories are just the right amount of macabre to unsettle. But they’re not likely to cause nightmares for their target audience. I think Dark Corners has the potential to be something very special. But you don’t have to take my word for it. You can see all of their content right here.
The YouTube channel description reads as follows: Dark Corners is a series of short animated horror films for young children designed as a fun gateway into the genre. Written by some of the top names in horror and made by a group of spooky, passionate filmmaker parents. Each film is rated on our 5-pumpkin scale and carefully designed to scare and delight everyone in the family – from preschool to high school.
