Quentin Tarantino is never shy about what he likes. Remember Joker: Folie à Deux? Probably not, even though it was only released about a month ago. Well, Quentin Tarantino loved it, and he’s been pretty vocal with his praise of the film. In the horror space, Tarantino loves Eaten Alive, The Thing, Deep Red, Audition, and dozens more. Tarantino even has a soft spot reserved for Alexandre Aja’s Crawl, of all things.

One of his deeper-cut recommendations, however, is a movie many horror fans might not have seen. Devil Times Five, also known as People Toys, The Horrible House on the Hill, and Tantrums, is one seriously messed up movie. Naturally, Quentin Tarantino ranks it among his favorites. Devil Times Five is now streaming free on Plex, and you can check out a trailer and synopsis below:

Per Plex: In a chilling turn of fate, five psychopathic kids flee their psychiatric transport, finding refuge with unsuspecting adults on a snowy retreat. As the children’s sinister antics unfold, their innocent facade crumbles, unleashing terror among the unsuspecting villagers.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly several years ago, Quentin Tarantino was asked what movie he would recommend for Halloween. Like the best of them, Tarantino went niche. We all know Halloween and Trick ‘r Treat are seasonal staples, but what about the hidden gems? The movies we’d never heard of but now can’t live without? For Tarantino, that was Devil Times Five.

Tarantino expanded on Devil Times Five, spotlighting supporting player (and future teen idol) Leif Garrett. Check out Quentin Tarantino’s response in full below:

“Leif Garrett is the leader of these killer kids. And Leif Garrett gives an amazing performance in this film? It’s terrific and it’s really ‘f’-ed up in a big way but that’s what makes it great. It blew me away. I was like, wow, this is amazing! I’ve heard about it forever, because it played the drive-in circuit on the lower half of double features for years. Finally, I watched it, and I was like, wow, this is terrific.”

Terrific indeed. Devil Times Five hadn’t been on my radar before, but it definitely is now. As an unabashed fan of films like Bloody Birthday, The Children, and Who Can Kill a Child?, . Devil Times Five looks to be right up my alley. Sign me up… times five.
