Stephen King Loves This Chart-Topping Horror Series: “Strange, creepy, claustrophobic, and scary”
In today’s streaming age, it can be difficult to keep up with the sheer volume of fantastic new shows and movies as they become available. Recently, for instance, Woman of the Hour premiered on Netflix, Smile 2, an unexpectedly terrifying sequel, arrived in theaters, and one of the most anxiety-inducing movies of the year, Red Rooms, hit video-on-demand for rental. That’s just three from this month alone, not counting a dozen other shows and movies that absolutely demand your attention. Breaking through the noise is hard, though, so let me point you toward another title worth checking out. We’re talking Teacup on Peacock.
Per Peacock: Teacup follows a disparate group of people in rural Georgia who must come together in the face of a mysterious threat in order to survive. Inspired by the New York Times bestselling novel Stinger by Robert McCammon.
James Wan’s Atomic Monster production company produces, with Wan listed additionally as an executive producer. Teacup stars Yvonne Strahovski, Scott Speedman, Chaske Spencer, and Kathy Baker. Over on review aggregator site Rotten Tomatoes, the critical consensus reads, “Stylish and genuinely scary, Teacup‘s human drama has some spillage but the atmospheric frights of this horror series leave a pleasing aftertaste.” Teacup is now streaming on Peacock, so check it up as soon as you can.
Better still, master of horror Stephen King remains a huge fan of the show. He compares the atmospheric frights and overarching mystery to shows like From and Lost, calling out the Gas Mask Man in particular. King has been praising a lot of horror series recently, though it sounds like Teacup might be one of his favorites. You can check out his full reaction to Teacup below:
Teacup recently wrapped its first season on Peacock, ceremonially airing its two-part finale on Halloween night. Very scary, very cool. Luckily, audience perspectives have paralleled with the critical reception, and fans online can’t seem to get enough of Teacup and its sensational scares. Check out some choice audience reactions below:

“Teacup”, on peacock?
I am on episode 2 currently.
Seems pretty solid so far.
I didn’t realize it is based on the
Robert R. McCammon novel
“Stinger”. If you are a McCammon
fan, you should check it out.
#teacup on @peacock started strong but went off the rails quickly. the funniest part is the super unneccesary infidelity subplot

This Teacup Series on Peacock is really good. I also really enjoyed Twisted Metal & If You Were The Last, both with @AnthonyMackie which are also on Peacock. pic.twitter.com/5KVZf3wvl8

I should have known they weren’t going to wrap up Teacup in one season. Hopefully peacock isn’t like Netflix and cancels shows after the first fucking season

I started watching Teacup on Peacock and it’s weird. It’s a little slow but interesting things are also happening. There’s some decent gore too! pic.twitter.com/tjKUGS7HTN

With Season 1 concluded, the question is whether Peacock will renew the show for a second possible season. Gotta love a cliffhanger. Here’s hoping, and in the meantime, please let me know what you think of Teacup if you’ve had the chance to catch it. You can find me over on Twitter @Chadiscollins where I’ll be feverishly working through my horror backlog before the year wraps.
