This Shocking Serial Killer Thriller Is the #1 Horror Film on HBO’s Max!

Who doesn’t love Josh Hartnett? The teen-heartthrob-turned-adult-sex symbol has an incredibly impressive filmography. Not to mention, he has worked extensively in the genre space for much of his career. From Halloween H20 to Penny Dreadful, Hartnett has appeared in horror for the big and small screens. The actor’s latest foray into the genre scene, Trap, has been somewhat divisive amongst fans and critics. But one thing is for sure: people are watching it. In fact, Trap currently sits as the #1 horror film on HBO’s Max platform and the #2 most-watched picture overall for the streamer.

If you want to see Josh Hartnett’s latest turn in a genre flick, navigate to Max and check it out. If you need more convincing, Dread Central editor-in-chief Mary Beth McAndrews critiqued this M. Night Shyamalan-helmed film for us and seemingly had a fun time in the process. She recognizes that the picture is silly but understands it’s by design.

McAndrews summed the flick up: “Yes, the dialogue is often cheesy and stilted. Sure, there are plenty of holes you could poke in the plot. But with a movie like Trap, what’s the point? Shyamalan is not trying to tell a fable with some greater truth, as seen in The Lady In The WaterSigns, and even The Sixth Sense. Instead, this feels like Shyamalan letting himself have fun and make a serial killer film in a way only he could.”

In addition to helming this escapist horror thriller, Shyamalan also penned the script. The film is about a family affair; his daughter, Saleka Shyamalan, plays a significant role. The younger Shyamalan features as a pop star, allowing her to flex her acting chops and showcase her musical stylings. The project came to life from conversations between the director and his daughter regarding combining the cinematic experience with the concert-going experience.

In addition to Josh Hartnett and Saleka Shyamalan, the film stars Ariel Donoghue, Alison Pill, Jonathan Langdon, and Hayley Mills.

The setup for this serial killer thriller on Max goes as follows:

While watching a concert, a man and his teenage daughter realize they’re at the center of a dark and sinister event.
