This Downright Horrifying Mike Flanagan-Approved Found Footage Shocker is Now Free-to-Stream
Found footage films sometimes get a bad rap. But when executed effectively, features of this ilk can be surprisingly immersive, making the audience feel like they are a part of the action.
Perhaps my favorite flavor of found footage cinema is the mock-doc. When the person holding the camera is a filmmaker, that distinction gives that individual a valid reason to keep filming. Moreover, a documentary director behind the camera usually means the cinematography is more professional and less choppy. It’s the best of both worlds.
Hell House LLC is an excellent example of an effectively executed mock-doc. It wasn’t made for a great deal of money, and there aren’t many big names featured within. However, the film is captivating and has managed to amass a cult fanbase since it was first released.
Interestingly enough, Mike Flanagan counts himself among the picture’s champions. The Hush director even added Hell House LLC to a Letterboxd list of his favorite horror films. Heck yes.
Where can I stream Hell House LLC?
If you are eager to pay Hell House LLC a visit after learning that Mike Flanagan is a fan, head over to Tubi where you can do just that. As of the publication of this post, the streamer has the film available to watch for free (with ads). Tubi also has installments for the second and third series available. If you are in the mood for an entire franchise marathon, you can catch the fourth film on Shudder.
We have good news if the first four films have you hungry for even more. A fifth installment is on the way. The bad news is that it’s not coming out until 2025. Franchise creator Stephen Cognetti reports that the fifth installment, Hell House LLC: Lineage, will debut on Shudder in 2025. A press release that accompanied the announcement says the upcoming installment will provide additional backstory for existing franchise characters and introduce some new faces.
The setup for this Mike Flanagan-approved found footage horror goes like this:
Five years after fifteen people were killed during a haunted house tour, a documentary crew visits the scene to investigate what really happened.
