This Forgotten Clint Eastwood Thriller Is Now Available to Stream on Prime Video

Clint Eastwood The Eiger Sanction

I love the ‘70s. It’s a time period that I narrowly missed out on experiencing. Accordingly, I have always had a fondness for the films of that era. I dig the natural lighting effects that steep the cinematic output of the decade in sepia tones. I love the hair, the fashion, the accessories, and the lingo. So, I’m always game to check out nearly anything released between 1970 and 1979. On that note: A Clint Eastwood film from that very period recently landed on Prime Video. Naturally, I am already gearing up to give it a watch this evening.

The flick in question is called The Eiger Sanction. As I said, it’s right up my alley. The core conceit is basically Dirty Harry doing James Bond on a mountain. Seeing as I am a fan of all things 1970s, a moderate Bond enthusiast, and a man who appreciates Clint Eastwood’s cinematic oeuvre, I anticipate having a good time with this one.

The setup for The Eiger Sanction goes as follows:

Former government assassin Jonathan Hemlock (Eastwood) now devotes his time to teaching and collecting paintings, but his quiet life is interrupted when he is persuaded by his former employers to work for them again. Hemlock has to join a crew of explorers (George Kennedy, Jack Cassidy) on a trip up the Eiger, a treacherous Swiss mountain. Hemlock must simultaneously determine which of his fellow climbers is a Soviet spy, kill his target, and scale the deadly peak.

The Clint Eastwood thriller The Eiger Sanction is now streaming on Prime Video.

If you’re equally intrigued by The Eiger Sanction, head over to Prime Video and give it a whirl. You’ve got nothing (but your time) to lose.

Clint Eastwood directed The Eiger Sanction in addition to starring. He directs from a screenplay by Hal Dresner, Warren Murphy, and Rod Whitaker. Whitaker previously penned the novel upon which the film is based. So, it’s nice to know the author had a role in bringing his vision to the screen.
