The #1 Most-Watched Series on Netflix is a Twisted Thriller Viewers Are Calling a “Masterpiece”
A new thriller series is tearing up the Netflix charts today. Madness currently claims the #1 slot on the platform in the US and globally. Perhaps it’s the appeal of leading man Colman Domingo, who plays media pundit Muncie Daniels. The Fear the Walking Dead star is a great choice to topline the series, and fans are connecting with his performance.
The critical response to the show has been mostly positive thus far. The program currently has a Rotten Tomatoes approval score of 71% and a Metacritic rating of 65/100. The critical consensus on Rotten Tomatoes reads: “Colman Domingo’s commanding performance smooths over The Madness‘ occasional descent into political didacticism, making for a mystery worth investigating.”
Critics aren’t the only ones vibing with the series, however. Netflix subscribers also seem to be having a good time with it. You can scope a sampling of reactions from Twitter (not X) below to see what I mean.

The series’ first season consists of 8 episodes in total. Colman Domingo recently revealed that he’s game for season two. He said the following to Deadline: “This show, I think there’s more from Muncie. I would really love to engage with a Season 2, so we’ll see if people think he’s got more story in him as well, so I hope people watch.”
The program is billed as a limited series, but seeing as it’s dominating the charts and the star is game to make more episodes, there’s a chance the streamer could renew the program for a second season. However, you know as well as I do how unpredictable Netflix is when it comes to decisions like this. Their algorithm takes more than just chart position into account. So, only time will tell.
Stephen Belber developed the program for Netflix. Marsha Stephanie Blake, Gabrielle Graham, John Ortiz, Tamsin Topolski, and Thaddeus J. Mixson round out the cast.
The setup for The Madness goes like this:
Media pundit Muncie Daniels must fight to prove his innocence after stumbling upon a murder in the Poconos while trying to reconnect with his estranged family and his lost ideals.
