’28 Years Later’ Trailer Teases A Terrifying New World
We saw what happened 28 days after the rage virus ravaged the world. Then we saw what happened 28 months later. Now, director Danny Boyle and writer Alex Garland are back to show us what happened 28 Years Later. The dynamic duo delivered the original 28 Days Later and changed the zombie horror game. While they didn’t return for 28 Weeks Later, they’re ready to unleash a new hell upon England with their new film. And judging by the official trailer just released by Sony Pictures, life hasn’t gotten much better since the virus first ripped apart flesh.
28 Years Later, naturally, takes place 28 years after the events of the original film and the world is still a terrifying place. The post-apocalyptic landscape is still ravaged by the undead and survivors have found rather creative ways to survive. But of course survival is messy and things don’t always go the way you want…
Read the official synopsis below:
It’s been almost three decades since the rage virus escaped a biological weapons laboratory, and now, still in a ruthlessly enforced quarantine, some have found ways to exist amidst the infected. One such group of survivors lives on a small island connected to the mainland by a single, heavily-defended causeway. When one of the group leaves the island on a mission into the dark heart of the mainland, he discovers secrets, wonders, and horrors that have mutated not only the infected but other survivors as well.
Now watch the official trailer:
Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Jodie Comer, and Ralph Fiennes star in the film, along with Cillian Murphy, who is set to make his return to the series with 28 Weeks Later. His character Jim was the center of 28 Days Later, and while his role here is being kept under wraps, there is a rather haunting image of (seemingly) Murphy rising up from a field of flowers. Only, it seems that he’s been infected. Sony Motion Pictures Group chairman Tom Rothman teased Murphy’s return in an interview with Deadline, saying that the character comes back “in a surprising way and in a way that grows.”
From haunting poetry and dancing Teletubbies to towers made of skulls and a blood-soaked Ralph Fiennes, it looks like Boyle and Garland are ready to create a whole new world of nightmares. And seeing how the film was green lit in January 2024, it’s shocking but exciting to see the film come into the world so quickly.
28 Years Later comes to theaters on June 20, 2025.
