We learned last year that Joseph Gordon-Levitt was in talks to produce, star in and direct a feature film adaptation of Neil Gaiman’s The Sandman for Warner Bros., and now a writer has joined him on the project. Read on, comic lovers!
Deadline reports that Jack Thorne (How I Live Now) has been set to script the adaptation, based on a treatment pitch made by David Goyer. Goyer will produce, and the plan is still for Gordon-Levitt to star and possibly direct.
The Sandman series shifts between horror and fantasy, and the central character is Morpheus, the personification of dreams. After being held captive 70 years, Morpheus escapes, gains revenge and rebuilds his crumbling kingdom while trying to adapt to the times. Warner Bros. has tried for some time to get a script right, and they may have finally cracked it.
Expect more on this one soon!
