Quentin Tarantino Directed a Scene In This Cult Classic That’s Only Streaming Until the End of the Month!
Quentin Tarantino is a visionary director known for infusing grindhouse cinema with arthouse flare. He and his filmmaker pal Robert Rodriguez have collaborated multiple times over the course of their respective careers. Perhaps most notably on the exploitation double feature throwback Grindhouse.
Another impressive team-up saw Tarantino taking the helm to direct a segment in Robert Rodriguez and Frank Miller’s comic book adaptation Sin City. That’s right, Tarantino directed the sequence where Dwight (Clive Owen) drives out of the city with Jackie’s (Benicio del Toro) dead body sitting beside him. The sequence is plenty surreal and has Tarantino’s fingerprints all over it.
The setup for this film, which features a segment helmed by none other than Quentin Tarantino, is this:
In this quartet of neo-noir tales, a mysterious salesman (Josh Hartnett) narrates a tragic story of co-dependency, while a musclebound vigilante (Rourke) tears his way through the criminal underworld in search of his lost love (King). In another part of the city, a grizzled cop (Willis) foils the ambitions of a child killer (Stahl), and an ex-prostitute (Murphy) evades her ex-pimp (del Toro) with the help of her new boyfriend, Dwight (Owen).
Sin City was a hit with both critics and fans of the comic. Many praised the film for sticking close to the source material. With Frank Miller (who created the comic from which the film is adapted) helming alongside Rodriguez, that should come as no surprise.
The film boasts an ensemble cast to die for. Jessica Alba, Benicio del Toro, Clive Owen, Brittany Murphy, Mickey Rourke, Elijah Wood, and Bruce Willis all appear in primary roles. The extended cast is equally impressive. Michael Clarke Duncan, Rosario Dawson, Rutger Hauer, Jaime King, Michael Madsen, and Nick Stahl all pop up in supporting roles.
Catch Sin City before it leaves Pluto at the end of the month!
If you’re keen to watch or rewatch the film to experience Tarantino’s standout sequence, you should do so quickly. The flick is leaving Pluto at the end of this month.
