‘The Monkey’ Trailer: He Must Be Vanquished—Or Else
Writer/director Osgood Perkins is back swiftly after his Longlegs success to deliver a new, gnarly horror experience with his adaptation of The Monkey. Based on Stephen King’s short story, Perkins expands it into a stylish and disgusting tale of misfortune. And you can get a taste of that misfortune in the new trailer.
But first, read the full synopsis below:
Based on the Stephen King short story, and produced by James Wan, The Monkey is a new trip from Longlegs writer/director, Osgood Perkins. When twin brothers find a mysterious wind-up monkey, a series of outrageous deaths tear their family apart. Twenty-five years later, the monkey begins a new killing spree forcing the estranged brothers to confront the cursed toy.
Now, watch the new, totally f****d-up trailer:
It looks like Perkins’ latest is a more stylized take on the Final Destination films, and that’s not a bad thing. Perkins is going for the gore this time, and I can’t wait to see how many creative kills await us.
Stephen King’s original short story “The Monkey” was originally published in 1980 in Gallery magazine. It was later included in King’s story story collection, Skeleton Crew. The story follows Hal Shelburn who, after his son discovers an old monkey toy in the attic, slowly remembers the death and destruction that followed in the toy’s path.
Theo James, Tatiana Manslany, Rohan Campbell, and Elijah Wood star in the film.
The Monkey comes exclusively to theaters on February 21, 2025, from Neon.
