Netflix is Losing One the Scariest Movies Ever Made Next Week; Don’t Miss It

Netflix

I come bearing sad news, readers: Na Hong-Jin’s Korean horror masterpiece The Wailing is leaving Netflix on January 29. So if you haven’t yet watched this terrifying piece of horror cinema, now’s your chance before it leaves the streamer! It’s an incredible mix of Korean folklore, religious horror, and the supernatural to craft a horror epic the likes of which you’ve never seen.

The official plot synopsis reads, “When a mysterious disease leads to death and chaos in a mountain village, a policeman with an infected daughter consults a powerful shaman.

It’s one of the best examples of an exorcism film not based in Christianity as Hong-Jin executes a horrifying spectacle with his exorcism scenes. Don’t let the long run-time dissuade you! While The Wailing clocks just over two-and-a-half hours long (156 minutes, to be precise), it’s perfectly paced and everything that unfolds onscreen is necessary for crafting Hong-Jin’s nightmarish vision.

We aren’t the only ones who love The Wailing. Guillermo del Toro recommended the film on X, writing, “THE WAILING is also a top-notch horror piece that will unsettle you and keep you guessing until the end!”

Previously, Na Hong-Jin directed Korean action films The Chaser and The Yellow Sea before his pivot into the genre world. After The Wailing, he collaborated with Thai director Banjong Pisanthanakun on the stunning found footage exorcism film The Medium. Hong-Jin penned the script, bringing his flair for terrifying setpieces to this tale about a female shaman.

You only have a few days to catch this Korean horror epic on Netflix. Sounds like we’ve helped figure out your weekend watch plans!
