Stephen King is Hooked on Popular Streaming Series: “I sorta hate myself for liking this”
I have a strange relationship with Yellowstone series creator Taylor Sheridan. I think he is a stone-cold fox who wears a cowboy hat exceptionally well. However, I find that his output as a television impresario is often hit or miss. Not to mention, he has a tendency to overuse stereotypically macho male characters while favoring characterizations of shrewd women with precious few redeeming qualities. As it turns out, beloved author Stephen King has similar thoughts.
No, not about Sheridan being a snack, silly. King has similar thoughts about the prolific showrunner’s ongoing fixation with one-note tough guy characters.
Via a recent Threads post, King casually recommended Sheridan’s streaming series Landman. However, the Misery author also makes a point to call out the program’s excessive machismo. His post reads, “Landman: I sorta hate myself for liking this, the spine is all macho-macho man and like The Mayor of Kingstown and Yellowstone, the main character is a fixer who takes no s–t. We’d all like to be that guy. But Taylor Sheridan knows how to show ordinary men at work, and you gotta like that. Also, great country music needle drops.”
Where is Landman available to stream?
So, there you have it. Stephen King is a reluctant fan of Taylor Sheridan’s Landman. If your curiosity is piqued by his casual endorsement, navigate over to Paramount+ and give the show a shot. Or don’t. It’s entirely up to you, dear reader.
Taylor Sheridan co-created the series with Christian Wallace. The show is based on Wallace’s podcast Boomtown.
Landman features a cast with a multitude of recognizable names. The lineup includes Billy Bob Thornton, Ali Larter, Jacob Lofland, Michelle Randolph, Paulina Chávez, Kayla Wallace, Mark Collie, James Jordan, Demi Moore, Jon Hamm, and Colm Feore. Not too shabby.
The setup for this series which boasts a hesitant endorsement from one Stephen King goes like this:
Deep in the heart of West Texas, roughnecks and wildcat billionaires try to get rich quick in the oil business as oil rigs begin to dominate the state. Crisis executive Tommy Norris tries to bring his company to the top during a fueling boom.
