The #1 Series on Netflix is a Thriller Stephen King Calls “Ridiculously entertaining”
Netflix seems to have a bona fide hit on its hands with The Night Agent. Season one currently sits as the 7th most-watched English language TV series on the platform with nearly 100 million views in its first 91 days on the service. Now, season two is following suit. The series sophomore season is the most-streamed program on Netflix today. Moreover it racked up 13.9 million views within its first four days on the platform.
It should come as a surprise to no one that Netflix has already ordered a third season of the hit show. As perplexing as their algorithm can be, even the clueless layman can understand the value in these numbers.
Among the series’ fans is one Stephen King. That’s right, the bestselling author took to Twitter (don’t even think of calling it X) last year to share his appreciation for the series. King sees the show for what it is, escapist entertainment. However, he is invested in the proceedings and digs the dynamic between the leads. Scope his full reaction in the screengrab below.
Shawn Ryan created the series for Netflix. It is based on Matthew Quirk’s bestselling novel of the same name.
Both the first and second seasons of the series have achieved ‘certified fresh’ status on Rotten Tomatoes. The inaugural season holds an approval rating of 74% and the second currently sits at 86%.
The series received nominations in both the Critics Choice Super Awards and the People’s Choice Awards. No Emmy nominations to date. However, that’s not a huge surprise to me. The Night Agent is an entertaining watch, but I wouldn’t say it’s high art. I enjoyed the first season. And I look forward to diving into the second. However, the show is very much what I would classify as popcorn entertainment.
If you’re game to see why the program has resonated with subscribers, make your way over to Netflix and give it a shot.
The setup for this Stephen King-endorsed series goes as follows:
While monitoring an emergency line, an FBI agent answers a call that plunges him into a deadly conspiracy involving a mole at the White House.
