This Certified Fresh Slasher Leaves Netflix Soon, Catch It While You Can!

Calling all Ti West fans. If you are a fan of the celebrated director’s X trilogy, I have some timely news for you. One of the films from the three-part series is gearing up to leave Netflix later this month. That’s right. The last day to watch West’s brutal period piece, Pearl, which features a ferocious Mia Goth in the titular role, is February 15, 2025.
So, if you feel compelled to squeeze in one more viewing before the flick makes its escape from the platform, you’ll want to make haste to do so.
The setup for this period horror thriller on Netflix goes as follows:
Trapped on an isolated farm, Pearl (Mia Goth) must tend to her ailing father under the watch of her mother. Lusting for the glamorous life she’s seen in movies, Pearl’s temptations and repressions collide.
If you have yet to experience Pearl, I suggest you give it a shot. West once explained the project to Polygon like this, “I just felt like Pearl has this sort of naiveté that matches a Disney movie, except it’s much darker and more demented.”
If the promise of a more demented Disney movie where Mia Goth seduces a scarecrow doesn’t sell you on this flick, I don’t know what will.
Ti West and company began secretly filming Pearl immediately after the completion of principal photography on X. Given the similar themes and presence of a recurring character; the prequel utilizes many of the same sets created for X.
The flick wasn’t exactly a box office smash. However, it managed to roughly double its estimated budget of $4.8 million, bringing in close to $10 million at the global box office.
Though it wasn’t a huge draw at the Cineplex, the film was exceptionally well-received by critics. The picture sits at a stellar approval rating of 93% on Rotten Tomatoes. The flick is ‘certified fresh,’ with a total of 215 reviews counted to date.
Pearl is the second film in the X trilogy. The final installment (and my personal favorite) is Maxxxine. I love seeing West pay homage to De Palma and Hitchcock, two of my very favorite filmmakers.
That’s everything we have for you for the time being. Stay tuned to Dread Central for more timely updates on which films within your niche interest set are coming and going from your favorite streaming platforms.
