One of the Most Romantic Horror Movies Ever Made is Now Streaming Free

Horror and romance go together like wine and chocolate. The Fly isn’t just one of the greatest horror movies ever made; it’s also swoon-worthy in its tragic romance. The Conjuring is so saccharine, I can’t help but fall in love (get it??) whenever Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga are together on screen. Even this year’s Heart Eyes is more romantic than you might have thought. I was just as invested in the central new love as I was in all the slasher bloodshed around it.

Now, of course, there’s also the twisted romances, with The Loved Ones, May, Fear, and Crimson Peak among them. No matter the angle, however, a little bit of love goes a long way. As the season of romance starts in earnest, you’ll be happy to hear one of the most romantic horror movies ever made is finally streaming free. You can catch it on Tubi, and you can’t blame me if you additionally catch feelings.
Per Tubi: A young man in a personal tailspin flees the U.S. to Italy, where he sparks up a romance with a woman harboring a dark, primordial secret.
Now, I don’t want to say too much. I can share that Lou Taylor Pucci and Nadia Hilker are exceptional in the lead roles. No differently than Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead’s other genre hybrids (Resolution, Something in the Dirt), Spring isn’t exclusively a horror movie. In fact, for the first hour, you might be reasonably surprised to hear it is one since the movie starts as a hybrid romance and coming-of-age saga.

It’s not until later that Spring unspools its heart-rending layers. It’ll make you sob and crave a love quite as profound as the one shared here. If it’s not clear, I really love Spring. In fact, I count it among my favorite movies ever. I was moved beyond measure, and there are few if any, better horror options out there this Valentine’s Day.
In our own review of the film from the time of release, we wrote,
“The special effects, scares, and gorgeous location are as enchanting as the love story itself. Overall, Spring is a solid sophomore directorial effort from Benson and Moorhead and is definitely proof that they are one step closer to becoming household names in the genre.”
Enchanting is a great way to put things. Yeah, Spring enchanted me, and odds are, it will enchant you, too.
What do you think? Any plans to check out Spring on Tubi? If you do, let me know what you think over on Twitter @Chadiscollins.
